Realtor.com came out with an article in January of 2026 listing the states with the highest property taxes. It comes as no surprise that New Jersey ranked at the top of that list.

The article mentioned that the median home sales price in New Jersey was $519,999 and the property tax on that number was $5,950.

I’ll use that same median sales price from New Jersey to compare property taxes in Murrells Inlet.

Some of Murrells Inlet is located in Horry County and some of Murrells Inlet is located in Georgetown County. In both counties, there is a tax rate for primary resident properties and a tax rate for second homes and investment properties.

Horry County:
– Primary resident will pay about $2,357.02 per year
– Second homes and investment properties will pay about $7,314.00 per year

Georgetown County:
– Primary resident will pay about $2,871.03 per year
– Second homes and investment properties will pay about $7,954.55 per year

As you can see, even at the higher tax rate, property taxes in Murrells Inlet, SC are lower than in New Jersey.
