How old is your water heater and why should you care?

Most insurance companies are requiring homeowners replace their water heaters that are at or nearing 15 years old as a condition of their policy renewal.

How can you find out how old your water heater is? For this example, I am using an AO Smith water heater. The company uses several serial numbers that indicate the year the water heater was manufactured. In this example, the water heater was manufactured in 2009 in the 44th week of the year.

Because this water heater is 15 years old, the homeowners most likely will have to replace the water heater as part of their homeowners’ insurance policy renewal.

Comment below and I will send you a link on how to interpret AO Smith serial numbers.
