What do the beach flag colors mean in SC?
You may notice different colored flags on a flag pole when entering the beach from a public beach access point or at lifeguard stands. What do the different colors mean?
Be most cautious when you see a red flag or double red flag.
🚩🚩 Water is closed to the public.
🚩 High Hazard – high surf and/or strong currents.
Yellow flags mean there is a medium hazard (moderate surf and/or conditions).
Green flags mean there is a low hazard (calm conditions, exercise caution).
Blue flags mean there is dangerous marine life (for example, jellyfish) in the ocean.
Take note of the flag color when entering the ocean so you can know what to expect.
